Exam week turns most desks into a small junk food graveyard — chip packets, energy drink cans, a sleeve of biscuits half gone by midnight. None of it actually helps with the studying. A few swaps keep the same late-night snacking habit going without the sugar crash an hour later.
Energy drinks → dates and water
An energy drink spikes then drops, and the drop tends to land right in the middle of a chapter. A few dates with a glass of water gives real sugar the body can use plus fibre that slows it down, so the crash is smaller. It won't replace sleep, but it beats the 2am jitters.
Chips → roasted nuts or seeds
Chips are loud, greasy and easy to keep eating without noticing. A small bag of roasted almonds or pumpkin seeds takes longer to chew through and actually leaves grease-free fingers for turning pages or typing.
Instant noodles → dates with peanut butter on toast
Instant noodles at midnight is a study-session classic mostly because it's fast. A slice of toast with peanut butter and a couple of chopped dates on top takes about the same two minutes and holds hunger longer, since it has protein and fat instead of mostly refined carbs.
Chocolate bars → dates stuffed with a square of dark chocolate
Nobody's cutting chocolate out during exam season — that's not realistic. Stuffing a pitted date with one square of dark chocolate gives the same hit in a smaller, more filling package, so one or two is usually enough instead of half a bar.
Fizzy drinks → date syrup in soda water
Plain soda water with a spoon of date syrup and a squeeze of lime gives the fizzy-drink ritual without the can of sugar. Keep a small bottle of syrup next to the desk and it's a two-second fix.
A stocked desk drawer matters more than willpower at 1am. Keep a small container of dates, nuts and a bottle of syrup within reach and the chip run to the mamak downstairs gets a lot less tempting.
