If you're buying Ajwa dates to resell rather than to eat yourself, the questions that matter are different from what a retail shopper asks. A retailer needs to know grade, harvest year, moisture content and packaging date — not a list of health claims copied from a wellness blog.
Start with the grade. Ajwa is usually sold as Grade A or Grade AA/Jumbo, and the difference is size and uniformity of the fruit, not nutrition. A supplier who can't tell you the grade breakdown of a shipment, or mixes grades in one box without saying so, is a supplier who isn't tracking their own stock closely.
Next is harvest year. Ajwa dates are harvested once a year in Madinah, generally between August and October, and tamr-stage (fully dried) fruit from that harvest can be sold well into the following year. A listing that won't state a harvest year — or worse, one that's clearly rotating old stock without disclosing it — is a red flag for a wholesale buyer, because your customers will notice staleness before you do.
Kurma AJwa supplied at wholesale volume should also come with a clear packaging date and moisture spec, typically in the 18–22% range for tamr-stage fruit. Moisture outside that range either means the fruit was rushed to market too soon (higher moisture, shorter shelf life, higher mould risk in transit) or over-dried and losing the texture that makes Ajwa worth the price premium over cheaper varieties.
Ask for MOQ (minimum order quantity) and case weight upfront — most wholesale Ajwa moves in 5kg or 10kg cartons, and pricing per kg usually improves past the 50kg mark. A supplier who quotes a single flat per-kg price regardless of volume, with no MOQ tiers, is usually a repackager rather than a direct importer, which matters if you're trying to protect margin.
